Timothy Francis Leary (Ph.D.) era escritor, psicólogo, y entusiasta de la investigación y uso de drogas psicodélicas. También fue una de las primeras personas cuyos restos fueron enviados al espacio por petición propia. Fue un famoso proponente de los beneficios terapéuticos y espirituales del uso de la LSD.
Leary anuncia su candidatura para gobernador de California, compitiendo contra Ronald Reagan. El slogan de su campaña fue “come together, join the party”. El 1° de junio de 1969, Leary se une a John Lennon y a Yoko Ono en su Montreal Bed-In y Lennon subsecuentemente escribe la canción para su campaña llamada “Come together”.

To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
